Julian Nichols (he/him) is a native of Toronto, Ontario. With an interest in ballet and contemporary, Julian attended the regional arts program at Cawthra Park Secondary school for Dance. During this time, he was also a company member at the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre. 

In 2017, Julian graduated Cum Laude with a B.F.A from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY. He also studied abroad at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taipei, Taiwan, working with international artists. 

 

Julian has performed works by internationally recognized choreographers including Aszure Barton, Tom Weinberger, Jose Limón, Brian Brooks, Kyle Abraham, Darryl Tracy, Allen Kaeja, Rosalind Newman, Emily Molnar, Alexander Whitley, Carol Anderson, Fanny Ghoreyab, Hanna Kiel, Maxine Doyle, and Roy Assaf.

Most recently, Julian founded his own nonprofit Bodies in Action ~ enGendering Contemporary Dance, which aims to break the boundaries of gender roles in contemporary dance by involving and including representation from all gender identities across the spectrum. This repertory company aims to give equal opportunity to all individuals as it continues to grow. 

 

Julian has been a company member with Nimbus Dance Works, a guest artist with The Limón Company, and has danced for Hanna Kiel's Human Body Expression. He has also trained at Springboard Danse Montreal, The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Momentum Montreal, and the Movement Invention Project.
